ProStart Program
ProStart is a high-school food service program initiated by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. The program requires students to complete specific hours of culinary coursework culminating with an externship.
Every year, each state in the country hosts a ProStart High School Competition, featuring culinary and management challenges, with the winners going on to compete in the National ProStart Student Invitational Event.
High school students who are part of a ProStart Program in high school can receive up to 18 Orlando Culinary Academy credits upon graduation from the ProStart Program. The Academy also provides a limited amount of scholarship money to ProStart students.
Many Le Cordon Bleu affiliated schools nationwide are active throughout the year hosting regional and state ProStart competitions and providing its chef instructors as judges.
In 2007, Le Cordon Bleu participated for the first time as a co-sponsor of the National ProStart Student Invitational Event.
In addition, along with other participating schools, Le Cordon Bleu offered scholarships to the first-, second-, and third-place winners in each of two competition categories ($10,000 for first place, $7,500 for second place, and $5,000 for third place).
